EmpowerED20 Speakers Announced, 30+ Presenters Laser Focused on Student Financial Success

January 20, 2020

It’s almost time for EmpowerED20, the premier industry event focused on highlighting the crucial importance of student financial success throughout the entire student lifecycle. This year features a rockstar lineup of speakers waiting to inspire, collaborate, and help you drive change at your institution. On March 3-5, the best and brightest thought leaders in higher education will share their insights and expertise—as well what’s worked for them as they’ve grown and innovated throughout their careers.

Insightful and Energizing Keynotes

EmpowerED20 will kick off with keynote speaker Michael Sorrell, Ed.D, President of Paul Quinn College, who has, during his tenure, led his institution to win HBCU of the Year, created the New Urban College Model, and partnered with PepsiCo to transform the football field into the We Over Me Farm, which feeds neighborhood charities and offers affordable food options for nearby residents. Listed by Time Magazine as one of the “31 People Changing the South,” Sorrell brings his enthusiasm and passion for positive change to EmpowerED20.

The momentum continues for attendees as keynote speaker, David Kirp, kicks of day two of EmpowerED20. Author of The College Dropout Scandal and Professor at the University of California, Berkeley, Kirp examines the pivotal role that institutions play in attaining student success. He is an academic and author of 17 books—as well as a strong proponent for policy and social change. Attendees will leave his session with renewed enthusiasm for driving change and student financial success in higher education.

30+ General Session and Breakout Speakers

Hold onto your hats, because the keynote speakers are just the beginning. General session speakers include Beth Akers, Author of Game of Loans and Senior Fellow at The Manhattan Institute; Daniel Barkowitz, Assistant Vice President of Financial Aid at Valencia College; David Burge, Vice President of Enrollment at George Mason University; Stephanie Marken, Executive Director of Education at Gallup; Allison Griffin, Senior Vice President at Whiteboard Advisors; Preston Silverman, CEO & Co-Founder of RaiseMe; Ryan Craig, author, Co-Founder and Director of University Ventures; and many more. Their combined experience and expertise come together in one invigorating event designed to help schools create meaningful strategies to promote and achieve ongoing student financial success. They’ll be offering actionable insights that attendees can take back and immediately implement at their own institutions to improve access to higher education, drive more informed borrowing, and boost completion rates.

Why Attend EmpowerED20

Previous attendees rave about the benefits of EmpowerED. An event filled with like-minded higher education professionals, it’s the place to collaborate, debate, and share ideas that will change the way student financial success is prioritized at institutions across the country. “If I could describe this conference in one word, that word would be ‘game-changing,’” commented Keyimani Alford, Vice President of Student Development at Madison Area Technical College.

“EmpowerED offers an unparalleled opportunity to engage with innovative and active change makers who are turning the processes of financial aid into the discipline of student financial success. Being part of this event is powerful and energizing, allowing smart and passionate people to come together with the singular focus of making college a financial possibility,” remarked Amy Glynn, Vice President of Student Financial Success at CampusLogic.
