Interns, Like Rookie Maddy Ryan, Play Key Starting Positions

December 23, 2016 CampusLogic

Our interns dig into their roles across departments here at CampusLogic—and the payoff is #awesome on both sides. They gain relevant work experience and we get brilliant college students who are experiencing the financial aid cycle for themselves. It’s like having our own living laboratory. Importantly, each of our interns serves as a daily reminder that the world moves fast—and that EdTech needs to keep up. We’ll be introducing you to our interns in this new blog series, “Meet the Rookies.” This week, People Ops Manager Sasha Robinson introduces us to Maddy Ryan, editorial assistant.

“Maddy was one of many applicants in the running for our editorial assistant internship,” Robinson recalls. “But by the end of our first conversation, I knew she was ‘it.’ She just blew me away.”

Sure, her resumé was impressive and her personality shined through as she recounted her experiences and colorful stories, Robinson adds. “But she also expressed a desire to learn and a deep curiosity for new topics—admitting she didn’t have all the answers,” she says. “I’m so happy to have her with us on the team.”

Dream job? “I don’t have one yet, but I do know that I want to own my own helicopter one day—and to be able to fly it!”

One thing most people don’t know about you? “I circumnavigated the globe at age 20 (aka “Semester at Sea”).”

Your passion, in 140 characters or less?  “I want to make every day better than the last. There is no limit to it, so I will always be moving forward.”

Why did you apply for the editorial assistant position? “Because my background (and major) is in journalism. I’ve loved writing—and working with everything pertaining to it—since forever, so it seemed like a perfect fit!”

Favorite part about working at CampusLogic? “The environment. I love coming into work every day, greeted with a smile from every staff member.”

She’s “Creativity On Wheels

“Maddy’s a great fit for editorial,” says Tracy Skochil, director of content at CampusLogic. “She’s got incredible drive and a willingness to roll up her sleeves and dig into any task we need to get done.”

From social media scheduling and project management to writing articles and researching new technologies that can help CampusLogic be more efficient, Maddy’s days are packed with opportunities and challenges. “I’ve gotten used to hearing her roll her chair across the office to ask me questions,” Skochil adds. “It’s funny: Depending on the volume of her slide, I can usually figure out how urgent her questions are.”
