As of March 29, 2016, the Privacy Rights Clearinghouse Chronology of Data Breaches documented 4,766 data breaches in the U.S., involving at least 898,458,345 records from all industry sectors. Of these, 768 breaches involved educational institutions, encompassing 14,790,624 breached records.
