Talking Transfer: How to engage transfer students of different backgrounds
Fact: No two students are the same. Each student has different needs, different goals and a different backstory. So why do we treat them all uniformly vs. uniquely? When it comes to transfer students, how they are engaged often plays a key role in their decision to transfer and successfully complete their 4-year degree. Only 25% of students who want to transfer make it to a four-year institution. While it’s true that only 14% of community college students go on to earn a degree within 6 years, and there is much to be done to nudge those students along, your transfer pipeline consists of more than the traditional transfer student, non-traditional populations are emerging. To increase that number, schools need to personalize methodologies aimed at maximizing transfer enrollment.
